Are you a Wantrepreneur?
This phrase was used by Tony Robbins recently in an article about entrepreneurs. He talked about the difference between an entrepreneur and a wantrepreneur. Wantrepreneurs have great business cards, fabulous websites, and take all the training they can get their hands on. However, they lack a few key elements that will make their ventures successful.
They aren’t willing to do the hard work. Being self employed is not for sissies. It requires a willingness to buckle down and put in the hours. Wantrepreneurs want the six figure income right now, and aren’t necessarily willing to put in their 10,000 hours to get there.
They procrastinate. Procrastination is the killer of success. Wantrepreneurs talk a big game, but when it comes right down to it, they put off doing the actual work. They might have great ideas, but it’s always about what they are going to do tomorrow, instead of what they need to do today.
They think like an employee. Wantrepreneurs might still be working at their 9-5 and dreaming of their big break. Or perhaps they have started their own business, but their small thinking is keeping them stuck spinning their wheels, spending way too much time on things that won’t propel their business forwards.
They don’t take risks. Wantrepreneurs are often not willing to put it all on the line for their dream. They keep working their regular job because they are afraid to burn their bridges and jump into the unknown.
If you find yourself experiencing any of these wantrepreneur tendencies, it’s time to re-group and start thinking like an entrepreneur. No more excuses. No more lying to yourself. If you really want it, (and you do…trust me) then in order for you to get it, it’s going to require you to get really honest with yourself.
Do you want a six figure (or more) income? Do you really want to see your dreams come to reality? Do you want to be able to set your own hours, be your own boss, and make serious bank? Do you want the freedom that comes with financial success?
The key is your mindset. Think about it. All of these wantrepreneur tendencies are really mindsets. And the one major mindset that defines wantrepreneurs?
Fear of success. Fear of failure. Fear of hard work. Fear of taking risks.
Fear keeps us small and prevents us from owning our power. It’s the big lie that we buy into that tells us we’re not good enough, smart enough or strong enough. It’s the ‘who do you think you are?‘ lie.
It’s the employee mindset. The one that keeps us hidden, tucked away in our insecurities and fears, hoping someone will tell us what to do so that we don’t have to take the risks. Someone else will take the fall, accept blame, put themselves out there.
The employee mindset will never create your dream business.
You must have a CEO mindset.
The CEO mindset is the one that will propel you to your dreams.
When you envision yourself as the CEO of YOU, everything changes. Instead of looking at your business from a small, employee mindset, you begin to see the bigger picture. You know why you’re doing what you’re doing. You have a clear vision of what you are bringing to the world, and why. You know what it will take to get you there, and you have no doubt that it will happen.
Here’s a few hallmarks of the CEO Mindset:
Time Management. You are aware that your time is valuable, and if you spin your wheels working on things that aren’t in line with your gifts, nothing will get done. You delegate to the professionals who can take care of the things that aren’t in your wheelhouse. You are meticulous with your planner and your calendar. You see the end of each goal and have a clear, well thought out plan on how to execute. You give yourself time off when you need it. You work smarter, not harder.
Fees. You know what you’re worth, and you’re not afraid to say it. There’s no second guessing or insecurity around what you charge. You know that people who really want you will hire you, and you are committed to working with your dream clients.
Motivation. You know how to stay motivated. You have discovered what really sets you on fire and gets you out of bed in the morning. Maybe it’s that early morning run that energizes you, or scheduling a celebratory drink with friends when you’ve completed a major task. Whatever it is, you’ve tapped into your motivational mojo and you are on fire!
Risks. CEO’s know when to risk and when to wait. They see the big picture and don’t let their emotions get in the way. They are willing to risk big when it’s necessary, and when they win, they win big. When they don’t they regroup and try again.
Responsibility. CEO’s take responsibility for the business. They aren’t afraid to say when they’ve messed up, and they give credit where credit is due. They also understand that nobody else is going to drive the ship. It’s up to them. And ultimately, they get the glory, the big payoff, and the big corner office!
Having the CEO mindset will change how you look at your business, and how you show up to work each day. It will transform your bottom line, energize your work day, and eradicate your fears.
