Procrastinating Perfectionist Steps Into Imperfect Action

by Melissa Stewart

I admire bloggers. Those brave souls that put pen to paper (figuratively speaking) and share their thoughts with the world. Now don’t get me wrong, I have opinions and thoughts out the wazoo and I’ve never been one to hold them back. It’s just that getting my thoughts out of my head and into a blog seemed daunting.

I thought I’d found the miracle “answer” last year and bought a cute little digital recorder. Now, I told myself, while I’m driving or doing “stuff” and those brilliant thoughts, ideas and posts pop into my head, I can record ‘em!! Didn’t happen. Sure, I’ve recorded some thoughts but getting what’s in my head onto the recorder didn’t come naturally. I felt like I was speaking to an audience. Recording a speech. I stumbled. I mumbled. I quit. It’s silly really. I just decided it was too hard and stopped trying. Now, that’s a hard thing to admit. If you follow me on twitter (@melissaonline) I’m known for all my little gems of encouragement. I’m the cheerleader for “don’t give up” and “keep trying” but I find myself fighting the same battles we all do. Curses, I’m human! What to do? Take my own advice?  This from a girl who had the following posted as her original twitter bio:

“She generally gave herself very good advice (though she very seldom followed it).”

That tasty morsal of wiscom is from Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and sadly rang VERY true for me. The upside of that statement? I give GOOD advice. What I needed was a good dose of action! And so, I find myself sitting here, typing away. Will it all end up grammatically correct? Not a chance. Will it be perfect? Probably not. Will it move me forward in the direction of my dreams and help others along the way? I think (an enthusiastic) YES!

Giovanna Garcia (http://www.imperfectaction.com) say’s: “Imperfect Action is Better Than No Action” and I LOVE that!! So, here it goes, a recovering procrastinating perfectionist, takes imperfect action towards her dreams.
