You’ve Got Balls by @askdrtania

I’ve heard that a time or two, and you probably have, too.

As an entrepreneur, I am constantly juggling my balls, due to the fact that I have quite a few of them in the air responsibility-wise; not one of them being below the waist.

To start, I’m a mom and a wife. This responsibility has me all over town on any given day. Whether it’s volunteering to run the front desk at my daughters’ high school, or grocery shopping for tonight’s meal – this job has its weekly demands. Add in the fact that both of my daughters play competitive volleyball, and there you have yet another full-time ball to juggle during the ten month season.

As a wife who has vowed to get it “right” the second time around, my husband is a huge priority to me. He and I have weekly date nights as a way to stay acquainted, and madly in love. I also manage our family’s real estate investment portfolio, which can tend to rear its ugly head right when I don’t have any more time to spare that week. And yet, when duty calls, you must answer.

Have you ever heard the saying, “if you want something done, give it to someone who’s busy?” I believe this is the secret to my success – not in how little I can do, but instead, in how well I can balance the planned with the unexpected.

In addition to my passion that is www.drtania.com, I am the managing director of our chiropractic office in Maryland, where I’ve been oh-so grateful to achieve the ‘4-hour workweek’; an idea coined by author and entrepreneur, Timothy Ferriss. The 4 hour workweek is a huge factor to my success as well, because without it, I probably wouldn’t have the time or the availability to do as much as I do. For more on this, see my She Owns It post, “Retire While You’re Still Working.”

One ball I refuse to give up, however, is the one that rejuvenates me. On average, I squeeze in about six hours a week for workouts and other ‘me’ time, critical to maintain the pace that I do. This time is NOT about patting myself on the back – this is an ‘atta girl’ timeout to recharge my batteries.

Entrepreneurship is not something you learn, it’s something you are, isn’t it?

Once that becomes apparent to you, there is no turning back. So why stop at one business venture or project? This is my anthem to all of you who are living the same life in a different package. When you make stuff happen instead of waiting for it to happen, sometimes people get hurt (or more likely, pissed off). They may be envious that you enjoy the fruits of your labors, irritated that you say ‘no’ to them sometimes, or just plain bewildered at how you make it all happen.

Don’t let it stop you. Yes, it may involve a set (or four!) of balls, but we make it all work, don’t we? Whatever it takes, right?

More power to you, sister!

Dr. TaniaDr. Tania decided to become a chiropractor at age 15 when she experienced a complete metamorphosis in her health through chiropractic.  She completed her undergraduate work at Pepperdine University in Malibu, California, and doctorate at Life Chiropractic College in Atlanta, Georgia. She is the founding partner of Broadneck Family Chiropractic, where she has practiced for over 20 years with two amazing partners who make it possible for her to take her message ‘on the road’.

Hollywood called, and she enjoys providing care on movie sets and behind the scenes at live performances. She’s been profiled in Washington Post Magazine and many trade publications, and has done extensive postgraduate work in prenatal and pediatric chiropractic, nutrition, exercise, and family wellness. A chiropractic lifestyle has helped her to stay fit enough to become a triathlete at the age of 40! She lives in Maryland with her three true loves, husband Braden and daughters Francesca and Julia.

The advice and guidance Dr. Tania has given her patients has been written, filmed, and boiled down to be informative, yet entertaining. There is a LOT of good health information available online, but most of it is, excuse us, BORING! Conversely, there are so many entertaining lifestyle bloggers to enjoy, but few, if any, have any healthcare credentials. She fancies herself a “Dr. Oz meets Bethenny Frankel” hybrid, and it’s our intention that Drtania.com will bring good, solid health and wellness advice from an “every girl” perspective, to it’s readers.

Oh, my goodness, Tania, you hit it with this one!

This morning, rushing home from a meeting with a homeowner (I also do a little RE investing “on the side”) to ensure I got home in time for a recorded interview for a copywriting job I’m working on; I got a call from the school regarding my ever-mischievous youngest son. Can it get any ka-razier? Oh, yes, but really there’s nowhere I’d rather be than in this whirlwind life I created. and time to check out my favorite blogs, to boot!
Good for you (and me!) and thanks for the inspiration from a fellow woman entrepreneur who gets it.
