Free (or really cheap) Halloween Activity Ideas
Halloween is such a fun time of year, but as with all things fun, there are costs involved. Sometimes it can get a bit pricey when you factor in costumes, food, and entertainment. This is why saving a few £££s on your Halloween fun can come in very handy for parents.

Here are 10 ways to enjoy All Hallows Eve on a budget…
1 – Halloween Crafts
It’s a known fact that kids love to take part in crafts. You can use stuff you find around the house to help keep the costs down such as toilet roll holders, cotton wool and pens and paper.
Check out sites like Pinterest and Craft Blogs for loads more cheap Spooky Craft ideas.
2 – DIY Halloween Costumes
You don’t have to spend a fortune on glamorous costumes that the kids will wear once, you can always go old skool and make your own. How hard could it be to make a ghost out of an old white sheet?
You could also try asking friends/family if they have any old ones you could borrow that their children might have grown out of….making it free for you!
Check Pinterest for a huge range of budget DIY scary costumes.
3 – Halloween Quizzes
Another activity or addition to any Halloween party is a spooky quiz. You can find plenty of child friendly quizzes online that are perfect for any Halloween party and will keep the kids entertained for hours.

4 – Trick or Treating
Don your DIY costume and take the kids out for a spot of Trick or Treating. Not only will you be out of the house, meaning you won’t have to supply treats to the other children (thereby saving money) you will also come home with a nice free stash for yourselves.
5 – Spooky Budget Food
Sausages are always my go to food at Halloween, as they are so cheap and diverse. You can make hotdogs, put a few slits in them, add some red sauce and they look like bleeding fingers.
Another alternative is to wrap them in pastry to look like mummies! These both go down a storm with the children.
6 – Pumpkin Carving
You can get pumpkins for as little as 50p now in most major supermarkets. It’s an activity the children love and once completed you can use the flesh to make tasty pumpkin based dishes, dry the seeds out for birds and the lanterns themselves go towards your DIY Halloween decorations.
If you are super frugal and want to get a triple whammy out of the savings, you can even plant a few seeds to have FREE Pumpkins next year.
7 – Halloween Games
You don’t have to spend a fortune on Halloween games, when there are 100s out there to choose from that are free or really cheap to make. We do a guess that song game at all our parties, which is super simple and cheap. I get a playlist together of spooky kids songs and the first to guess the name of the song wins a point.

8 – Scary Movie Night
There is nothing I love more than cuddling up on the sofa for a movie night. Decorate your living room with all your DIY craft decorations, use your trick or treat haul as snacks and settle down for a spooky movie.
During Halloween night there are usually plenty of free movies provided on the TV to suit all ages, Hocus Pocus is a firm favourite in this house and never gets old.
9 – Shop Savvy
The very best time to stock up on Halloween craft items, costumes and games is right after the event ends. Shops and supermarkets don’t want to hang on to left over items all year so they sell them off for next to nothing.
If you’re lucky enough to have the space to store them for the year, it’s well worth stocking up ready for next year.
10 – Bobbing for Apples
This timeless classic is loved by children at Halloween, and barely costs a thing. You can pick up a bag of value apples for less than £1 in most supermarkets.
