If you haven’t started with video marketing because you find it’s more confusing than a college Calculus course, we’ve got you covered.
We’re breaking this down for you with a few simple strategies and by the end of this blog post, you’ll be better equipped to get started with your own video marketing campaign. No calculator required.
So by now you’ve heard that video is the number form of media shared on the Internet right? And that’s not just cat videos.
Let’s face it. Video gets your attention! And if you’re still unsure just how effective video is, check out these statistics:
Honestly, I could go on and on with statistics but unless you enjoyed Statistics as much as I did in college, you probably wouldn’t be very happy with me.
Now let’s dive right in and create a video marketing strategy that will help your business.
Strategy one: You need a video on your website. This video should be anywhere between one-three minutes long
- Welcome your visitors and let them know what your site is all about.
- You can have more videos on your site as well such as on you blog or your sales pages.
- If you have a highly visual product, put a video portfolio together.
- You can also have a video that shows how to use your product.
Look back at that statistic I share earlier. You want people to stay on your website longer. It helps your site a number of ways and gives you more opportunity to connect with them and for them to take action. Unless you have all the business you need and are turning people away, don’t skip this.
Strategy two: Use promo videos on social media, email and YouTube
Social media video posts can be:
- A simple announcement for a new product, a service
- A short promo for a blog post
- A behind the scenes look at your company
You can be pretty creative here.
Shorter videos are typically better for these types of videos. Your goal should be to get people to your website and/or share your video. You’re going to get the most mileage out of each video in the short-term on social media
Videos on YouTube may have different goals. You will get more long-term benefit from video on YouTube.
With YouTube videos you can:
- You can build your brand
- Create videos you want to rank in the search engines
- Offer how-to videos and position yourself as an expert in your industry
- Be a YouTube creator with the goal of monetizing your channel
Video with email
Video for email doesn’t have to mean embedding a video in your email, although you can. You can also add a link to a video on your blog or on YouTube.
Strategy three: Video ads on social media and YouTube
This is a highly underused marketing strategy right now but it won’t be for long. If you’re already running ads on social media, start testing the water with video ads.
You may not hit it out of the park right off the bat, but if you already have your target audience down, you’ll be ahead of the game. Now it’s just a matter of which ads will benefit more as a video ad.
YouTube video ads are different. If you’re not familiar with Google Adwords, you may want to hold off on this until you have more experience with video and video ads.
But I will say that when you master this, you’ll spend less on video views here than anywhere else.
You will want to pay attention to your analytics and measure and tweak along the way.
I know I said I was done with the statistics but I’m going to sneak one more in.
According to Tremor Video, 75% of online video viewers have interacted with an online video ad this month. (this was from January of 2016)
Wow! What if those were your ads?
One thing I didn’t mention here is that you really need to have an optimized YouTube channel if you are going to put video on YouTube. Get some nice channel art made just as you do for your other social media channels. Let your YouTube banner reflect your brand.
There you have it. Now it’s time to start thinking about your own video marketing strategy. And the best news is there is no quiz. But I’m sure you would have passed anyway!

Ah the Bio section. Let’s change this up and start with a quote. “Don’t adjust your dreams to accommodate your reality, adjust your reality to accommodate your dreams.” Yep I wrote that. I’m Angela Moore, Founder and President of Six Degrees Digital Media. We launched the company in May of 2010 and have the good fortune to still be helping others. We love creating awesome video over at Six Degrees as well as e-Courses and websites. If you need help telling your story, we’re here for you.
Also, I’m a mom of two awesome kids, which I believe is my real legacy. And if you’re still reading this, I’ll throw in that I’m a huge fan of Disney (movies and the park), as well as superheroes. I’d love to save the world but right now I’ll settle for saving the Internet one byte at a time.

Angie’s first marketing venture was a lemonade stand in her grandparents’ yard. Fast forward to her first marketing class in college, which is where she realized this was her true calling. After working in sales and marketing in the education and technology space for ten years, Angie felt an entrepreneurial calling to start her own company. Her goal was to help organizations while leveraging her integrity and creativity. From there, Six Degrees Digital Media was born.
When she’s not in front of her computer bringing campaigns to life, you’ll find her studying a new language, learning about technological trends, binge-watching her favorite shows, or playing games with her family.
