Images of the stock floor are not new to anyone, many of us understand the trading world as a place where men scream orders at each other. But what many people don’t realize is that very little trading happens on an actual trading floor. Today anyone can trade from their own computers, but few women choose to. I believe that if more women knew about trading as a means to supplement their income, or be a career all together, she would trade.
Of course just like any other investment strategy it should be well researched, weighing both the pros and cons to make sure its right for you. Here are three reasons why I think more women should consider trading:
1. It’s a flexible way to earn extra income
Thanks to global exchanges, there are trading opportunities that exist at pretty much all hours of the day. This means that trading can fit around your existing schedule. When I began trading I would wake up early before work and place trades.
2. Trading doesn’t have to be only for millionaires
Traders often do a disservice by always speaking in sophisticated trading terminology ( I refer to it as trader speak) and talking about really large trading accounts. Trading doesn’t have to be that way. There are many more ways to trade then the “buy and hold” stocks that is often discussed in mainstream media.
One way to trade that offers flexibility is Options. Trading using options provides an opportunity to trade in a manner by identifying a maximum gain and loss, choosing a direction, and choosing a timeline that you think that stock will move.
3. You don’t need to be a mathematical genius or a banker to trade
Many women are intimidated to learn to trade, but trading is a skill that can be learned like any other. I think if there was better information available to the average women, she would realize that this is a viable option to be considered. Trading can be incredibly empowering and rewarding. Instead of just listening to the marketing pitch by your banker or financial planner, stop and ask yourself if you have any interest in taking control of your own investments. You too can trade if you choose.
