Ambition is the first step to Success, The Second Step is Action.”
This is one of my favorite quotes I live by and as I have learned ambition alone cannot lead to success, you need to take action if you want to succeed. Believe it or not there are some easy steps to achieving the success you want, and it all starts with getting rid of old habits that may be holding you back. Here are the 5 things you need to give up if you want to succeed.
SAYING “I CAN’T”
I know you are with me here everyone uses this phrase. When we say “I can’t” a lot us think that it means “I won’t.” It can also imply that you’re not willing to do what it takes to get things done (whatever those “things” might be). In our minds this also creates a possibility of failure. You might not think this is a big deal but this creates a lot of negative self-talk. If you keep saying “I can’t” over and over again, you’ll slowly start to discourage yourself. And that, can leave you feeling less confident and creative and suck the drive out of you. If you take those words out of your vocabulary you will notice a change in your confidence and your ability to succeed in everything you do.
The difference between who you are and who you want to be, is what you do. Seems pretty simple but for most people it isn’t. It doesn’t really matter what it is that you are trying to succeed at: a new career, saving money, losing weight, learning a new language, living a healthy lifestyle or life in general, there will always be something in the way. It’s up to you to take a little responsibility for your actions. Don’t put things off until last minute. The words “I don’t feel like doing this now, I’ll do it later” should not be a part of your vocabulary. We all procrastinate in some way– some do it to a greater degree than others. Good news is, you can slowly train yourself to stop procrastinating. I know, this seems easier said than done. But don’t think twice about it and just DO IT.
COMPARING YOURSELF TO OTHERS
No matter how things look on Social Media no one’s life is perfect. We only see what others want us to see. Just like we only show off the best parts… of our lives.
Concentrate on the journey you are on and where you want to be, if you spend the same amount of energy on your success that you would on comparing yourself to others you will be one step ahead of the game.
There is no perfect person nor is there a perfect moment for anything, don’t wait for that perfect moment, because you’ll end up waiting your entire life. That moment does not exist. Just do the things you want to do. Don’t avoid rejection, learn to accept your decisions and own them.
FEAR OF FAILURE
One of the most important things you need to give up if you want to succeed, is fear of failure. I truly believe you can’t succeed without failure. Anyone who’s ever accomplished anything, failed at some point. This is how we learn to get better. I will tell you this at some point you will fail, since you now know that what’s left to be afraid of? When you fail, you get up and learn from it and you try again. As long as you keep trying and don’t walk away, you’ll never be a failure.
The path to your success is paved by the actions you take. Whatever you are hoping to achieve, these steps will get you on the right track. Good Luck!
