Emotional Intelligence in the Workplace should be top of your list When growing your business and starting to hire employees. Diversity, equity and inclusion will lead to a better organization and that comes from using Emotional Intelligence in the hiring process.
We tend to hire people like ourselves, but quite honestly, that is not the best plan! If all our employees are “like us”, then we won’t have a diversity of opinions.
When hiring, it’s important to think of your client base. Who in your company can best relate to your client base. For example if your company products/service are best suited for asian women, and you don’t have any asian women in your workforce, how can you relate to this type of client and their culture.
Using Emotional Intelligence when hiring means you are eliminating hiring bias. You are willing to be open minded to interviewing people who meet your hiring criteria but are from different ethnic backgrounds.
Successful organizations walk this talk and have found that diversity, equity and inclusion have helped advance their company and improved their corporate culture.
We have a great podcast on this subject with Hanieh Khoshkhou, principal of e-Tree Group who explains emotional intelligence in the workplace
