Finding Joy In Everyday Life

by Pavlina Toren

I cannot stress how important it is to enjoy each day to the fullest but sometimes that is easier said then done. We spend a lot of out time waiting for something better to come a long, believe it or not waiting for that Friday to come, for something better to come along, for vacation, or for the weekend is actually very time consuming. You can spend your entire life, saying things like “I’ll be happy when I [fill in the blank]“. But why not start living the life you are given on a everyday basis and actually enjoy it. Today I am sharing some tips on how to enjoy your everyday life.

Gratitude is the fastest way to change your life. It’s not enough to just think about what you are grateful for but actually feel it. Practicing gratitude is like training your brain to see and notice and take the time to feel the themes in your life. Don’t know where to start? Get a gratitude journal and start by writing down five things you feel grateful for, every morning.

Find pleasure in learning new things. You are never too old to learn something new, it’s never too late to try something new. Never too late to do something for a very first time. It can be anything from a new language, to photography, sport, reading or drawing. You might discover a new passion that you never knew you had. The most important thing is to try things that bring you joy. If you haven’t found it, keep searching. It doesn’t matter if you’re 20, 30, 40 or 50 years old- it’s never too late to start looking.

Living in a busy city I find a lot of us are always rushing around to get things done and stressing out abut what needs to be done and what our future might hold. Take a little time to enjoy the view is something I always like to say. Enjoy THIS moment, it will never repeat itself. It does not matter what you are doing, reading a book, eating dinner, cleaning your house, ot having your morning coffee free your mind to enjoy the moment and take it all in. There is something magical about being present- when your mind is free of judgement in every single moment, every single thought.

Do you ever feel your energy drop when you are around people who gossip, complain, nag and think negative? When its time to get together with friends, surround yourself with people who make you feel good about yourself, with people who smile a lot and laugh often, people who want to see the good in others.

There is nothing wrong with treating yourself. Do something just for yourself. It doesn’t have to be anything huge like full-on spa day, but maybe a 5 minute face mask or a quick run in the park.

Let go of things you cannot control, this is one of the toughest things for me as I am some wat of a control freak. Sometimes, bad things happen to us, but they always teach us a lesson so take what you have learned with you but let it go
So tomorrow when you get up and start your day pay attention to what you focus on, what you think about , who you spend your time with and what you talk about. And always take a little time to enjoy the view cause even the most ordinary of days can end up being the happiest of days.
