Let’s face it, video for business is here, it’s strong and with YouTube being the #2 search engine (Google is #1) it’s not going away anytime soon. We are in a digital world where we’ve been hiding behind websites, social media, smartphones and text. What’s been missing is a personal connection and for a while that seemed to be okay. The days of hiding are OVER, y’all! The one thing missing in the text is what? Emotion, personality, connection, and trust. How many times have you sent an email or text or posted something on social media and it was taken completely the wrong way? Sarcasm, humor, laughing, eye rolling, winking, and tones are not found in emails or the wrong tone is conveyed resulting in people getting offended or not understanding your message 100%. Video brings back the things we’ve been missing. It has a face, there is emotion, you can hear and see the laugh, you can hear the sarcasm, you see and feel the tone and you make a connection. With video, your ideal client no longer has to wonder who you are or what you look like as they can find out for themselves in your videos!
If you are thinking video is too hard! It’s not. And you don’t have to break the bank to have great videos. Perfect does not exist so stop thinking you need perfect to upload a video and don’t let people lie to you and tell you that you need expensive equipment. You can make great videos using natural lighting, your smartphone and either iMovie or Windows Movie Maker for basic editing. The one thing I would invest in is an external mic. Again, nothing expensive, this one works great and has a phenomenal price! You don’t have to start at the top, just start. However, you don’t want to use outdated equipment that creates grainy video and you don’t want a recording that is choppy or where the video and audio are not synced together.
The 4 Reasons You Should be Using Video for Your Business:
- Search engines LOVE video content!
- When you use YouTube to upload your video you can be found globally. YouTube videos can help your business attract customers from all over the world.
- Improves your “expert” status. By giving away some great content that your ideal client needs and craves, they will come to you often and share your content with their network.
- Builds trust. When your ideal client can see a video with your face and your voice they are able to make an actual connection with you.
The first video you should make for your website is the About Video. Tell your story, why are you passionate about what you do, teach, or sell, how you know all about your ideal client’s pain points because you’ve been there and let them know it can be different. Your videos should end with some type of call to action that you want them to take whether it’s a free gift you are giving them to get them on your list, to schedule a free 15-minute 1 on 1 call, or whatever your next step is to make sure you are telling them to take it! The video should be 1 ½ -2 minutes ideally and definitely don’t exceed 3 minutes.
I’m no video expert as I’m still a work in progress myself when it comes to making videos and a great place to start is by following someone who is an expert in that field. My video go-to guy is James Wedmore. He makes it all sound so simple and has awesome free training on his website.

Indeed, Kristal, getting started using video can be extremely intimidating as well as how to go about it! Thanks for the encouragement and the James Wedmore referral.
I also enjoy reading about what you do! I am sure a lot of readers could benefit from your guidance! Looking forward to future tips.

Thanks Judy! I was always afraid of video and always felt like it had to be “perfect” before posting one. I also felt like I had to get all dressed up with perfect hair and makeup (I don’t even wear makeup daily). Then I decided that just isn’t realistic as a mom of 4 kids under 10 yrs old and that also wouldn’t be trued to who I am and now that I’m not overly concerned about those things I just do it and have much more confidence. Like everything in life we have to start somewhere and then improve and grow as we learn and life allows for more resources. #justdoit 🙂
