Why style is about so much more than clothes

Why style is about so much more than clothes

For a lot of us women, feeling insecure has become a sort of default. Constantly nitpicking at ourselves and making every flaw known can have some huge effects on our mental health, especially when it comes to self-esteem and body image. It’s easy to lose yourself in the everyday hassles of life and sometimes our clothes are the last thing we’re thinking about.

We tend to unconsciously throw on clothes each day without putting too much mind to what we’re putting on our bodies, but over time it will begin to have an effect on you in a positive or negative way but ultimately you get to choose. It’s so easy to put our self-care on the back burner with all the demands of life coming at us left and right, but style can be the very thing that keeps us in tune with ourselves and even helps us heal our relationship with ourselves and our body!

In so many ways it can bring you back to yourself and make your relationship with you better than ever! When we take time to acknowledge our worth, and fill our cup, it allows us to show up as the best version of ourselves and life will feel more meaningful that way. At the root of personal style, you’ll find self-compassion and acceptance. And that brings about inner security. Style is truly about embracing who you are, how you look, and where you’re at in life. It allows you to be grateful for all that you are and celebrate who you’re becoming in the most special way. It also means loving who you are and how you look in this very moment and choosing to make yourself feel good no matter what so you can feel confident about yourself inside and out right now!

This can translate through your style in numerous ways. It could look like either of these 4 things:

  1. Putting on something that really inspires you and lifts you up, instead of something that makes you feel “meh” –Maybe a top with a vibrant print or a bold pair of heels instead of your usual pair of leggings and the sweatshirt you always wear!
  2. Restyling the clothes you have in your closet so you can shop less and rewear more of what you own –it’s a great way to spark inspiration and creativity in your life!
  3. Learning how to dress for your body type so you can find clothes that will flatter your shape and improve your body image
  4. Investing in some new pieces that will elevate your wardrobe.
Style is about self-expression and it’s a powerful tool because it gives you the freedom to truly appreciate and express who you are in such a unique and creative way. We could all use a confidence boost, which is why personal style can be the thing that helps us feel like ourselves again. We all deserve to know our worth, and we all deserve to feel good about our bodies no matter our shape or size.
As a result of feeling more confident, it’ll start to push you out of your comfort zone and inspire you to do things that you always wished you had the confidence to do! This is the best thing you can do for yourself because there is so much beauty to be found in life when you challenge yourself to grow. This is how self-love happens. You’ll start to prioritize yourself in every part of your life and take the best care of yourself, inside and out! So keep pushing yourself, keep accepting where you’re at while striving for better. Because you truly deserve the best. Now get out there and find yourself some clothes that truly make you feel like YOU!
