The future is here and it may have already passed you by. You may think you are on top of the marketing ball through Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, but you could be missing the boat on something else. Things are not like they once were in marketing. Digital changed everything. Trends move fast and shift constantly. To be in touch with your audience, you need to be ahead of the curve. Video streaming through social media has started to take off. Let’s look at how these trends can affect your marketing reach in 2017:
Everyone Is Watching
There has been a large uptick in the number of videos watched online in the last few years. Facebook has been on top of this trend and has been putting its resources into it. In the past year, Facebook video views have increased by 7 billion. They recently introduced Facebook Live which allows for live-streaming video. Instagram and Snapchat also utilize video. Snapchat boasts 10 billion views per day. To take advantage of this, marketers need to rely less on text posts and start putting their attention to videos.
Live Video
Live streaming was once an expensive and inefficient tool to reach people. The streams would often be choppy and of poor quality, and it was hard to grab an immediate audience. Facebook Live and Periscope have opened the door to live video streaming to a larger audience at a low cost. Viewers are attracted to live video streams as it carries that “anything-can-happen” feeling.
Mobile
More and more people are watching less at their desktops and more in the car, on the treadmill, in the park, in the coffee shop, and on the bus. Mobile viewing is king. Apple sold over 55 million iPads globally in 2015. These numbers do not consider those who already own iPads or iPhones. People watch on the go. Consider how this viewing will influence your audience.
Younger Crowds
Looking to reach the Millennials? How about the generation after them? Embrace Snapchat, YouTube, Periscope, Facebook, and Instagram. You are not going to attract this demographic through traditional TV or print ads; you need to go to where they are. Don’t forget to keep an ear to the ground on the latest changes.
Different Content
People have little patience for online ads. They will click ahead or use ad blockers to avoid advertisements. Online video marketing should be very short and entertaining. Give them a reason to stay.
Other things to keep an eye on are our email videos and the fact that many videos (85% on Facebook) are watched without sound.
