Is Your WordPress Site Safe-

Have you ever seen a warning in your WordPress dashboard that a newer version is available. “Please update now”.

Don’t ignore it.

As the owner of a website design company, I often tell our clients that most of the work begins after the website has been built.
I am not sure they believe me, but if there is one thing you can’t ignore it is maintaining your website.

There are many reasons you should keep your website updated, and here are some of the most important ones:

  • Increase security
  • Fix bugs
  • Add new features
  • Increase functionality

Why is your outdated WordPress site to vulnerable to attack?

When a new WordPress update is released, it explains what bugs it fixes. Hackers can use this information to target specific versions of WordPress. All they have to do is to look at your page source to see what version of WordPress you are running.

There are two major parts of WordPress updates. The first is the WordPress core, and the second is all of the plugins your site uses. The updates are necessary to reduce security threats such as hacking, malware, and such.

The majority of hacked sites are those which have not been updated.

If you want a quick and easy way to make your website more secure, keep your site updated.

Hackers and malicious scripts are constantly scanning for outdated WordPress installations. Once they find an outdated site, they start exploiting your site.

One of the worst part of being hacked is that you most likely will not be aware of it for a while. By the time you notice a lot of damage could be done. For example, Google could drop your site from its index if it is infected with malware.

In addition to the security benefits, updates help fix bugs. If something isn’t working properly, you may just need the latest update. Updates also add new features and functionalities.

How frequently should you update your WordPress site?

Once a year is not enough to update your site. Update at least once a month.

Before you do a WordPress update backup your site. If something goes wrong during the update you can rest assured that none of your data is lost.

If you are uncomfortable making the update yourself hire a website professional to help you. The important part here is to keep your WordPress site updated regularly.

Outdated software is extremely vulnerable. Most sites that are hacked are outdated. The simplest way to avoid being targeted is to keep your WordPress core and your plugins up-to-date.
