Q&A With Million Dollar Dropshipping’s Maddy (Glynn) Barr

Maddy is 23 years old and became a millionaire at 22 when she quit her job and started her own dropshipping business – after discovering dropshipping by watching random YouTube videos!
Maddy set up her now six-figure business with no college degree and with less than $1,000 in her bank account’. Within six months, she broke $100,000 in profits from her dropshipping business and hasn’t looked back since. Now, she helps others do the same.
We’d love to learn more about you and your story and how you got to where you are today.
Back in 2020, I was working as a realtor and I was miserable. I was working crazy long hours, I was dealing with demanding clients and a demanding boss, AND I still wasn’t even making enough money to afford some of the nicer things I wanted. I was stressed out and exhausted all the time.
I was only about a year into my real estate career at this point, and I just remember thinking to myself “I cannot work like this for the rest of my life.” I knew I needed to find another way to make more money and get some of my time back.
I had heard about making money online and “side hustles” before and I saw people making large amounts of money really fast doing something called ‘dropshipping.’ So, although I was a little hesitant, I knew I needed to make a change, so I started my dropshipping business while still working as a realtor and with less than $1,000 left in my bank account.
My dropshipping business generated over $7,000 in month 1 and by month 6, I had made over $100,000 and quit my job as a realtor forever. Not to mention, I was able to make this much money while only working on my business 10-15 hours a week. And, that’s really one of the coolest things about dropshipping – you have income flowing into your bank account passively, so you’re still making money even when you’re not working. This was a completely new concept for me!
Over the next year and a half, I continued to scale my first dropshipping store while also opening up a few additional stores. I was able to spend my time exactly how I wanted to, I was able to afford luxury items I’d always dreamed of owning, I was able to travel without asking anyone for time off, and I felt like I was finally living a life that prioritized ME, not my boss.
After seeing how drastically dropshipping changed my life, and after getting SO many messages from friends & family asking for help setting up their dropshipping businesses, I knew I wanted to share what I learned in the dropshipping/e-commerce world to help others achieve the same financial freedom I was able to achieve.
So, I decided to create Million Dollar Dropshipping – a full, step-by-step course showing people exactly how to start and scale a wildly profitable dropshipping business. I love watching people go through the program, build their dropshipping stores, and truly change their lives, just like I did!
What social media platform is the best for business growth and why?
I believe TikTok is absolutely the best platform for business growth. The use of the “for you page” and the way the algorithm works allows for fast growth and more views without needing to have a large following, which is incredible for brands and businesses. Not to mention, video-form content really allows you to showcase your brand personality and connect with your audience/customers.
We all face challenges, but looking back, what have been some of the biggest challenges and pitfalls you’ve had to navigate?
A few months after I had started my first dropshipping business, I was feeling so amazing about the progress I was making. I had quit my job in real estate, I was making more money than I ever thought possible, and I was doing all of this completely on my own.
I figured, ‘If I’m making this much money as a beginner with Facebook ads and marketing, imagine how much money I could make if I had a professional company handle my ads!’ so I decided to hire a marketing company to run my Facebook ads.
This was absolutely the worst decision I’ve ever made in my career.
I spent over $25,000 with this company for the ads to perform significantly worse than when I was running them myself. I was devastated – that was A LOT of money to throw down the drain.
Instead of letting this get to me, I buckled down and learned absolutely everything I could about Facebook ads from targeting techniques to ad creation tips to copywriting tips and more. I ended up creating ads that were even stronger than they were originally.
If I hadn’t had this experience, I would’ve never taken it upon myself to become an expert in Facebook ads, which ultimately led to the long-term success of my business.
What is a typical day like for you?
I wake up around 8:00 am and usually have breakfast or a coffee with my husband. Then, I get a quick workout in and get ready for the day. Then, I’ll usually spend about 1-2 hours working, doing things like answering emails, tweaking Facebook ads, and creating content. After that, the rest of my day is free for me to spend it exactly as I choose to. I’ll usually spend the rest of my time doing things like going to the beach, going shopping, getting a massage, and/or meeting my friends for lunch!
What advice would you give your younger self when starting this journey?
I would tell my younger self to always trust your intuition! I feel like this has always been one of my strengths and has really allowed me to push through some of the failures I’ve had throughout my career. I always felt like I had this inner knowing that I was meant to be an entrepreneur and I’m thankful that I was able to trust that as I experienced challenges along my journey.
What are the three most important habits to be a successful entrepreneur?
First, they focus on progress over perfection. When you’re getting started in business, you’re not going to know how to do everything right away and that’s okay. Allow yourself to be imperfect and focus on doing things that move the needle forward every single day. Focusing too much on making everything perfect is just going to delay your progress.
Second, they aren’t afraid to take risks. Starting a business is risky. If it wasn’t, everyone would do it. Successful entrepreneurs are all willing to take risks that other people may be too scared to take.
Third, they don’t let failure stop them. Think about every successful entrepreneur you know – I can almost guarantee that they’ve all gone through some type of failure before creating the business that ultimately led to their success. If you keep trying, you can’t fail.
What book do you think everyone on the team should read?
Chillpreneur! This is definitely one of the books that has made the biggest impact on my life. This book made me realize that you actually don’t have to work crazy hours to be an entrepreneur or make a lot of money. It taught me that starting a business can be FUN and working harder doesn’t always equal more money. This book completely shifted my perspective when it came to the way I viewed money and I think this is a really helpful book for anyone looking for a better money mindset.
