“One resolution I have made, and try always to keep, is this: to rise above the little things.” John Burroughs
You made New Year resolutions. Now it’s May and now you’re 4 months into those “365-days-of-opportunities”. The time is running very fast, isn’t it?
According to the survey conducted by Statista Company 93% of all respondents are confident in keeping their resolutions made for 2018. What about you?
In fact, the reality is not so optimistic and usually 50% of all resolutions fail. But it shouldn’t be the case with you. Probably you decided to keep all resolutions this time as 2018 is going to be the year of BIG changes for you.
So, let’s have a closer look at the steps you should follow if you want to keep your New Year resolutions and reach the goals:
1. Make a plan
You should have a plan for each resolution. What does it mean?
Make a list a smaller steps that need to be done in order to reach the main goal.
For example, if your resolution was to visit a new country, do the following: specify the country you would like to visit, set the dates when you would like to go there, describe what you personally need to reach this goal (tickets, vacation, a definite sum of money, particular people to go with you and so on…). Being specific will give you more chances to reach the goal.
2. Set the deadlines
It is quite obvious that if you want to reach something you expect to get it asap. But make sure to write specific deadlines in your plan. It would be great if you could name the dates or the time of the year for your goals.
Visual planning works great in this case. Create a plan with goals and time periods on a sheet of paper and hang this paper on the wall to be able to see it daily. Such planning will remind you of your goals and stimulate doing actions towards their achievement.
3. Share
When you are talking about your resolutions you are showing your intentions to keep them.
For example, if you’ve decided to become an entrepreneur in 2018 it would be great if you could share your business ideas with family and friends. Doing so you can find people who will support you and help you with any beginning.
Remember, when you are doing the first step to your goal the whole Universe starts to help you. So, just share!
4. Review the progress
Big goals need time to be achieved. But it doesn’t mean that you won’t see the results until that time. Review small intermediate steps that you have done. It will give you an opportunity to see the progress and motivate to move forward.
5. Stay focused
This step is not so easy to follow but it is one of very important in the whole process. Your goal will take efforts and patience. It is very important not to give up and concentrate on what you should reach. Sometimes you may be tired or demotivated. In such moments just give yourself some rest and remember why you have started. Relax and keep on working.
Final thoughts
It is very important to set goals and plan their achievement. Patience and consistency in making steps towards your resolutions will definitely show the results you will be proud of one day. Any goal is achievable if you have strong intentions and ready to give your time and efforts in order to see the results. So, it’s time to start doing real actions, isn’t it?
