If you’ve been following me for a while, you know that fitness I am a personal trainer and fitness is super important to me and a big part of my life. I try and work out 5-6 days a week. I genuinely enjoy working out for many reasons, it makes me feel so much better about myself, relieves stress, helps me sleep better, and is great for your overall health and wellness.
That being said we have all been there, where we loose motivation to exercise. Even as a personal trainer have been through times like this, but there are a few key things to get you out of this rut and into the gym again. Today I want to share with you some simple but effective tips to staying motivated with your fitness.
- Set reasonable and attainable goals
This is something that is so important, If you haven’t been to the gym in a month don’t set a goal to hit the gym every day, instead be reasonable and set a goal for yourself to do something active for 30 minutes, 3 days this week, starting off with something reasonable is key. This well help in accomplish the goals you set and more likely to stick to it. Be specific when you are setting your goals, Set a goal that has a specific number of days, and then try and make a plan of what you’re going to do: go to the gym, go on a walk with a friend, go to a spin class, etc.
- Remember the ‘why’
Remind yourself why you are working out, or wanting to be more active…and write those reasons down! It is so tempting sometimes to say ‘screw it” but if you remember the reason you want to hit the gym it’s so much more motivating.
- Do something you enjoy
If your goal was to work out 3 days a week, make it as fun for yourself as possible. If you don’t like running, don’t force yourself to go run 3 days a week. If you’re more of a group fitness person, go to a spin class or circuit training class at you local gym. If you’re the social type like me with working out, call a girlfriend and ask her to go walk around the lake with you. If you love being outdoors, take your dog for a run / walk around your favorite park. There are SO many different ways to stay active, so make sure you pick something that you enjoy. You are much more likely to stick with your goals that way.
- Never underestimate the power of new clothes
Ok this is the fashion lover in me coming out and what a great excuse for hitting the mall but, having cute workout clothes motivates me. If I have a new workout outfit, I can’t wait to wear it to the gym or a spin class!. Workout clothes are seriously my weakness. It’s also a good idea to make this a reward if you meet your goal.
Hope you are ready to it the gym and crush your goals after reading my tips.
