Please introduce yourself and tell us about your inspiring story. We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.

I’m Sharnell Ellerby, the driving force behind Queen Divas Body Sculpting & Esthetics Academy. My entrepreneurial journey is one marked by resilience, vision, and an unwavering commitment to beauty and wellness. It all began with a profound admiration for body sculpting, inspired by pioneers in the field, and fueled by a personal vow to make my mark in the beauty industry. My path was not straightforward; it was carved through challenges, including a life-altering motorcycle accident that reinforced my purpose and propelled me into the realms of beauty and education.

What made you decide to go into business for yourself?

My fascination with body sculpting took root in 2009, but it wasn’t until 2017 that my dream began to materialize. After discovering the prerequisites for legal body sculpting in New York, I embarked on an educational quest in aesthetics. This foundation not only set the stage for Queen Divas Body Sculpting but also ignited a passion for sharing knowledge, leading to the establishment of Queen Divas Body Sculpting & Esthetics Academy. Our brand stands out for its commitment to quality, inclusivity, and empowerment, offering a sanctuary for both clients seeking transformation and students pursuing a career in esthetics.

What is a typical day like for you?

A typical day for me is a blend of leadership, creativity, and community engagement. From overseeing operations at our Franklin Square and East Rockaway locations to mentoring the next generation of beauty professionals, every moment is an opportunity to inspire and be inspired. My leadership style is rooted in empathy, discipline, and an unwavering belief in possibility. These traits have guided me through the complexities of entrepreneurship, from making strategic decisions to nurturing a culture of excellence within our academy.

What are the three most important habits to be a successful entrepreneur?

Empathy: Understanding and valuing the perspectives of clients and students alike has been crucial. This approach fosters trust and loyalty, creating a supportive and welcoming environment for all.

Discipline: Staying true to my vision, even when faced with obstacles, has enabled me to maintain focus and drive forward. Discipline ensures consistency in the quality of service and education we provide.

Perseverance: The conviction that anything is achievable with dedication and effort has been my mantra. My career is a testament to the power of resilience, overcoming doubts, and seizing opportunities for growth.

If you had one piece of advice for someone just starting out, what would it be?

For those at the threshold of their entrepreneurial voyage, my advice is simple yet profound: Begin with a clear vision, grounded in your passions and values. The road to success is fraught with challenges, but it is your unwavering commitment to your dream that will guide you through. Remember, it’s not just about achieving success; it’s about inspiring others along the way.

Every entrepreneur has a goal and problem they’re trying to solve. What was the inspiration that started your journey?

Every venture begins with a spark, a moment of clarity where a gap in the market becomes glaringly obvious, and the path forward seems almost illuminated. For me, that moment was rooted in personal experience—a direct encounter with inefficiencies and the lack of solutions that not only I faced but also affected those around me. It was this realization that propelled me to take action, to create something not just innovative but also sustainable and ethical. The drive was not merely to fill a market gap but to address a deeply personal need that I knew, if experienced by me, would resonate with others.

What would you consider your biggest accomplishment and why?

Reflecting on my entrepreneurial journey, the crowning achievement thus far has been witnessing the tangible impact of my venture on real life. The realization that what started as a solution to a personal problem has blossomed into a product or service that significantly enhances the well-being of others is profoundly gratifying. This accomplishment is a testament to the vision, hard work, and resilience invested in the venture, making it the most rewarding aspect of my entrepreneurial experience.

We all face challenges. Looking back, what have been some of the biggest challenges and obstacles you’ve had to navigate?

The path of entrepreneurship is strewn with challenges, each demanding a unique solution and a resilient mindset. Looking back, the most significant hurdles stemmed from navigating the unknowns of the market, securing funding, and building a reliable team. Each obstacle required a deep belief in the vision of the company, coupled with a flexible approach to strategy and execution.

Can you share some of the most important lessons you’ve learned from your successes and failures in business?

In the realm of entrepreneurship, workplace challenges are inevitable. Creating a culture that values open communication, mutual respect, and collective problem-solving has been essential in overcoming these obstacles. Encouraging team members to voice their ideas and concerns has fostered a collaborative environment where challenges are addressed proactively and constructively.

How do you set your business apart from others in your industry?

In today’s fast-paced and competitive market, distinguishing our business from others in the industry is crucial for growth and sustainability. We achieve this through a blend of innovation, sustainability, personalized customer experiences, transparency, and continuous improvement.
Innovation is at the forefront of what we do. By consistently integrating new technologies and methodologies into our operations, we ensure that our products and services not only meet but exceed current market demands. This commitment to innovation keeps us ahead of industry trends and allows us to offer cutting-edge solutions to our customers.

What are the three most important habits to be a successful high performer or leader?

Continuous learning and self-improvement are vital. The world is always changing, and staying informed about industry developments and enhancing personal skills are crucial for staying relevant and effective as a leader.

Mastering time management is another critical habit. High performers know how to prioritize tasks and allocate their time effectively, ensuring that key objectives are met efficiently without compromising on quality.

Lastly, building and nurturing relationships is fundamental. Whether it’s within the team or with clients, cultivating strong, supportive connections fosters a collaborative environment. This not only enhances productivity but also encourages innovation and creativity.

What are some final thoughts you’d like to share?
