We hear the phrase “digital age” all the time. Technology is growing exponentially, and that means the world is wide open for digital entrepreneurs.
From selling simple PDF’s to teaching online courses, the opportunities for starting a digital business are virtually endless. Unlike physical products, you only have to create one copy which is then downloaded when sold. It’s a “hands-off” process that allows anyone to become a business owner.
Here are 4 ways you can become a digital selling machine this year:
- Choose the Right Niche
Smaller is truly better in the world of digital selling. For example, let’s say you want to create a business product. Instead of trying to create something in the “how to make money online” category (which as has been used to death), choose a smaller niche. Maybe something for specifically for Instagram or how to use Evernote.
Don’t try to compete with huge markets. Instead whittle your idea to something a small group of people can’t live without.
- Create Something Unique
Once you’ve chosen your niche, it’s time to create something your small target market will crave. You may believe it’s all been done before – but it hasn’t. Here are a few ideas to help you understand why being unique is the key to success:
IlDikko sells amigurumi crochet patterns on her Etsy store:
Ryan Biddulph, from Blogging From Paradise, sells a wide variety of digital products for bloggers who want to travel:
Amanda Bisk sells a wide variety of fitness-related items, like this audio and PDF yoga series combo:
The idea is not to do something that’s been done before, but to create your unique masterpiece. Think way outside the box. Something that’s not traditional, and packaged in a new and interesting way.
- Choose a Mobile-Friendly eCommerce System
More and more consumers shop from their tablets and phones. Think about what triggers a purchase, which may be email or social media. Many people read both their emails and favorite social media platforms on their smartphones or tablets. That means you have to choose an eCommerce system that works where your niche spends their time.
Selz is a great choice for selling any kind of digital product, either from your own site or you can create your own Selz store. Etsy is good for those in the crafting niche (although the competition is somewhat fierce), and Amazon is a great place for selling eBooks. All of these eCommerce platforms are mobile-friendly so your potential customers will be able to purchase your digital product easily from their tablet or smartphone.
- Focus on Digital Products This Year
Whether you’re a new business owner or just want to add a new profit stream, the popularity of digital products will continue to grow this year. Digital products are the only products that can be carried in your customers pockets and used anywhere on the planet. If you know you’ve got something amazing to share with the world, there has never been a better time to create a digital product for your niche.
