50 Women You Should be Following on Twitter 2012

by Melissa Stewart

Last year we shared “20 Women You Should be Following on Twitter” and this year our list has grown to 50! In all honesty, narrowing it down to 50 was excruciatingly painful. I admire and am inspired by so many on Twitter every day. In the end, we chose 50 women who tweet valuable information and inspiration on a regular basis. Ladies who will respond to your questions, share a smile, raise their coffee mugs in *cheers* and are most definitely retweetable!

And with that, here they are 50 Women You Should be Following on Twitter:

I recognize many names but I am delighted to see Leesa Barnes and Kathy Ireland on this list. They truly exemplify class and a spirit of engagement. Being an entrepreneur is a challenging task but when you carry yourself with grace and style as Leesa and Kathy do, you set yourself light years above the rest. It’s all about engagement for me and not just pushing your agenda which so many entrepreneurs tend to do on Twitter. Leesa and Kathy demonstrate that. It’s about acknowledging others when they reach out to you. We can all learn from each other and this list.

I also know of other women who would certainly qualify in this category.

**sniff sniff** Bev, don’t make me cry. Thanks for your kind words.

Ever since reclaiming one of my values of “connecting,” I started to approach Twitter differently. I also started to watch Melissa because I think she’s a fabulous example of how to use Twitter to serve others. I’m certain that Melissa chose the women that she did because they’re like her – women who serve instead of (as you say Bev) just push out their agenda and sales offer (yuck!).

I know that Top anything lists are NEVER comprehensive. Someone is always missed. I remember one blogger about 2-years ago got SOOOOOOOOOO much flack about who was missing from his Top 50 list, he actually deleted it (I made to that list and tried to link to it but I’m now taken to an error page).

That’s why, like you Bev, I merely celebrate who’s on the list. I know many on this list and I’m discovering many new faces that I must get to know. Then I either compile my own based on my standards OR I highlight to the list compiler a handful of people who I believe should make it to their list the next time.

GREAT list. I’m following a few of these incredible ladies already and am just going through to add the rest now. One suggestion…it would be great if you created a list on Twitter to make it easier to follow everyone. I looked on your account and didn’t see one.

What a fabulous list! So excited to find some new friends on your list as well as many friends that I already treasure dearly.

Great list, it is inspiring to see all these women involved with life in such a dynamic way. I will enjoy learning about each. I would suggest for your list Mari Smith, Social Media guru and author of “The New Relationship Marketing”. If you are going to use social media in your business, and you should be, then Mari is someone to read and get to know.

    Thanks, Merinda.
