The First Three Steps to Clearing Clutter for Good

One of the things I hear most frequently from anyone trying to get organized is that they don’t know where to start. To help people get over this hump, I wrote and recently published my first e-book, “Fabulous Foothold to Organization: A guide for getting started when you don’t know where to start.” In […]

Creating Ease When Your Schedule Runneth Over

All too often, our schedules run us instead of the other way around. The other week I saw Elf the Musical. In it, there’s a song where the business man/father’s assistant is telling him his schedule. It was ridiculous. Only 15 minutes for meetings. 5 minutes to draw up things that clearly would […]

What Feels Right to You?

As a professional organizer, I see a LOT of great organizing information. Between friends, family and clients who share their experiences through social media, people who send articles to me, and my own research, there’s a MASSIVE amount of organizing that passes through my brain. There also seems to be just as much dissension. It […]

All or Nothing Will Bite You in the Tush

A common obstacle preventing people from creating an organized and clutter free home is having an “all or nothing” mentality. Many people tell me that they’ve never gotten their homes organized because if they can’t get the whole house done at once then they just don’t bother to do anything. OK. Let’s play with […]

Because Less Than Fabulous is Just Unacceptable

Once upon a time, I was an event planner. Through the years of planning galas, benefits, weddings, and everything in between, I spent a LOT of time chilling out with my clients. The phrase that worked with even the most anxiety-riddled client was “Don’t worry, darling. Less than fabulous is just unacceptable.”  I said […]

Banishing “Make Do” or Why That Ugly Chair Has Got To Go.

I currently hear a phrase swirling around too often. This phrase does nothing but keep people stuck in their clutter. Make do. You know: This will make do until the right thing comes along. I will just have to make do until I find the time to do it correctly. This will make do […]

A Tale of Two Homes or How Design Affects Organizing

Gather around Sunshines as I tell you a tale of two homes. Home A is spacious. At the outset, everything seems like it will work in good order. Then you try to function in it. There’s barely any storage. The roof angle cuts off the tops of upstairs closets. There aren’t drawers where […]

You are Enough

Today’s message is short and sweet, Sunshines.   You. Are. Enough.   Why am I telling you this? Because in the vast majority of homes I’m in, the excessive clutter is there to fill up some hole that is missing. Mild to moderate clutter is often circumstantial reasons like someone who didn’t fully […]

Get a Spotless, Organized “Insert Room Here.” by @melindamassie

by Melinda Massie | Featured Contributor Prepare thyselves for a redheaded rant, Sunshines. I recently saw an article titled, “Get a Spotless, Organized Laundry Room.” This, my darlings, is bullsh… A FULL-BLOWN LIE. Unless you move out of your house, or never actually live in it ever again, you will NEVER have a spotless, organized […]
