I often talk about faith when I speak on key elements to achieving our goals. When I refer to faith, I don’t mean it in a religious

context. I’m talking about faith in terms of believing in ourselves and our abilities, as well as having faith that everything happens as it should, even if it’s not the way we want it to.
Here are 3 reasons I think faith is a necessary element in the success of any business:
- If you don’t believe in you who will?Faith in yourself and your abilities is vital to success as an entrepreneur. Whether you are selling a product or service, you have to believe in what you are selling and in your ability to do it well. Self-doubt is one of the biggest gremlins that keep us from achieving all that we want.
- No one wants to work with a control freak! No one likes to be micro managed all the time. Many of us find it hard to delegate because we don’t believe anyone can do it the way that we want on our timelines. Trust your instincts, check references and build a team that you know will be able to handle things when you can’t or don’t want to. Vacations are a lot more fun when you’re not worrying about whether or not things are getting done at the office!
- Worry is just negative goal settingYou’re putting a new product to market. You’ve done the research, the marketing plan is complete and you’re ready to go. You start to worry about all that could go wrong. What ifs are keeping you up at night and really starting to stress you and your team out. Breathe. There’s only so much that is in your control! Take it from the girl who planned her book launch on her father’s birthday (December 22nd) only to have Ice Storm 2013 hit. You cannot possibly plan for everything that could go wrong. Besides, doesn’t it feel better to focus on all the things that could go right?
I love writing about faith because it’s something I still struggle with. Writing articles like this one serve as a reminder to me about why there are times when it’s necessary to surrender. I don’t mean give up. I mean, stop forcing things to happen. Keep an open mind. Listen to your inner knowing and believe that you will find a way, regardless of how impossible things may seem at right now.
I think faith is important as an entrepreneur because it allows us to focus on the what and not the how. There are so many people out there with great business ideas that will never come to reality because they can’t see how it could ever be possible. That kind of limited thinking has no place in entrepreneurship. If we’re in this for the long haul, we have to have faith that we will find a way no matter how unclear the path may be at times.

Hi Sandra
Great post..’focus on the what and not the how’…that is one of my mantras. It is hard because our logical brains want to try and figure everything out, and we can’t possibly compute all the different ways the things we want can come together for us. This can be difficult but the more we do it, the more ‘proof’ we will see of this truth, and the easier it is to think this way. Loved reading this!

Thanks Kelli! I’m glad you enjoyed reading the post 🙂 Trying to figure everything out is just way too stressful – I keep reminding myself that worry is just negative goal setting. Helps to keep me focused on what I want to accomplish instead of worrying about how or if everything will work out.
