Have you ever looked in the mirror and asked yourself what is my purpose in life?
I know I have, and for some asking yourself that question can be a little scary sometimes. For me, as it drew closer and closer to graduating from University I began questioning what exactly my purpose was. In addition, my mind felt like it was going to explode because I had so many thoughts running through it. Things like; where was I going to live, what kind of job did I see myself working and where exactly did I see the direction of my life turning. I had everything going for me, a great partner, a full scholarship to play basketball, and a family that supported me no matter what. I thought I knew everything. That all changed when I got fired from my first job.
I wanted that feeling back, that hunger that I had in University. I was on a mission to find my purpose. It meant that I had to let go of the past and just live in the present, forget about all of my failures and work on perfecting my craft. So that is exactly what I did! I decided to put a plan together. One that wasn’t hard but required me to focus on the things I wanted to achieve, that is, reach my full potential and purpose in life. So here it goes. These are my five keys that helped me deliver high performance for success.
1. Preparation and Vision
Having a vision is the most important element to your success. Without a vision, there is no preparation. Here are a couple of questions you may want to ask yourself.
- What is your purpose?
- What is your motivation?
- What is your vision?
- Who are you doing this for?
- Do you have the skills to perform high-quality work?
- Are you prepared?
- Do you have the skills to actively apply, analyze, evaluate, conceptualize, reason, communicate and synthesize information?
- Are you doing everything you can to reach your full potential?
These are just some of the questions I asked myself. Start with your vision and work your way down the list.
2. Focus
Do you have what it takes to remain focused? I only ask because if you’re not focused on achieving your goal then what is your intention of your vision? If you remain focused on building a strong foundation through your preparation it will lead you to success. I firmly believe that in everything that I do, I must leave an everlasting impression. That is, leave a mark that will never be forgotten. So do it! Don’t ever be outworked. Never settle for anything less than a 100% effort in everything that you do. ALWAYS dominate never compete – there is a difference! You want to be the best at what you do. Why compete when you can reach your full potential by preparing well enough to succeed your vision?
The next important factor of focus is having a deep sense of motivation. Without motivation, there is a lack of focus. Without focus, there is no drive to be motivated. Ask yourself these questions:
- What keeps you motivated? Success? Money? Family?
- Are you motivated enough?
- Are you okay just remaining in the same position you were a month ago?
Think about it. What drives you to remain focused on achieving your goal?
3. Level of Happiness
This is probably one of the most important factors for me as I continue to grow my business and achieve all the goals I have set. I love what I do. It brings me nothing but pure joy to see me make a difference in a young adult’s life. The transition process can be hard but I am here to help! So here are some questions that I am sure will spark your thought process.
- Does it make you happy?
- Is it something you enjoy doing?
- Do you wake up every morning ready to go conquer your day?
- Are you in it for just the money or gratitude?
I think for me, happiness stems from a lot of things. It can be from encouraging words, the amount of people you influence, whether you gain followers on social media pages, there is a wide variety of things. I would personally write down what makes you happy and then ask yourself does it correlate with your vision?
4. Failures and Mistakes
Although, it can be a difficult subject to talk about you will encounter more failures and mistakes in the building process of your career. I learned this the hard way and took a few hard bumps but nonetheless, it didn’t stop me from achieving my goals. I have made some mistakes ones that I have learned from and ones that I am still trying to process. There goes that saying that nothing is perfect and that everything happens for a reason. You have to trust the process even if you feel like giving up – it’s not over yet!
5. Level of Confidence
I placed this one last because I feel like there are elements of having the right amount of confidence in all of what you do. The first is having the right mindset. Despite hitting a few hiccups along the way you must remain positive! A negative mindset will always find a way to work against you. A positive mindset will work in your favor. This leads me to the most important factor through this all, that is, self-belief. You don’t want to be too confident and be taken as an arrogant person. With that being said, you should know that your abilities have gotten you to where you are today. I believe that I can achieve anything I put my mind to. You can do it too!
So there you go. Five easy keys that deliver high performance for success. Start with a vision. Put a plan together and prepare. Remain focused and don’t let distractions hinder you from achieving your goals. Make sure you love what you do, and be happy. Learn from your mistakes and have enough self-belief so that you have the confidence to achieve success.
